    Default Software Job Interview tomorrow

Visual C++, MySQL ... whatever those are! I need to show them a can do/can find out attitude with a keenness to understand the requirement and get the job done.

    Bring back 68000 assembler ...

You can get Visual Studio Express edition free online and MySQL is open source

    http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudi...d-2010-express
    http://www.mysql.com/

I suggest you download them and have a play. If I was interviewing someone I would have expected them to have done.

The company makes weighing machines. Last time I saw them they were playing with load cells and progamming micros in assembler, and they gave the job to someone with previous load cell experience. So finding out what they want to do with a database is going to be part of tomorrow's interview.

BTW the installation of Visual Studio 2012 (which apparently will generate code for XP) has just failed. Twice. Here's the log

Visual Studio 2010 install started well but appears to have locked up installing .NET Framework 4

edit: no it hadn't locked up it was just taking a long time ...

edit #2: its still taking a long time, although I can tell the process has moved on a bit. I guess it must be trying to compute why the earth man wants dried leaves boiled in water ...

    Good luck fella.

I think playing with the product before you get in the door is good advice.

Getting on the technet forums may also be beneficial.

    This might help as well
