    Default Full Bodied Electro Acoustics

Anyone got/tried a Yamaha LLX6a or a Takamine EF444S, if so what is your opinion?
Anyone got any recommendations for other electro acoustics (non cutaway) for max £600.00 new or used.
    Many thanks in advance.

what kind of player are you ? I would say Faith, but then again I could assume by the inclusion of a Tak, you're a heavy strummer ? Rather than a picker/medium strummer type ?

I've moved onto lighter nylon picks so my strumming is getting lighter by the day. I do a bit of picking as well.
Are you saying Tak's are bobbins?

One of the DX series Martins should be just about in your price range I think - if you're prepared to be open-minded about non-wood materials, they're fantastic. They do a few non-cutaway models as well, which is something a lot of companies don't seem to in electros. To me, they just sound full and warm in a way no Yamaha or Takamine I've ever played does. (Or Taylor, or any other 'modern' brand either.)

If they're the ones with the multi ply necks and 'pseudo' wood backs - sorry but they're bloody dreadful. (of they're not then - ignore me rantings ) About as responsive as a Tak on a cold day. It was dead and dull.

BigLicks - if you want something responsive to lighter strumming/picking, Id still say try a Faith. All the Taks Ive tried in that price range (and any at all TBH) are just too heavily built with big thick tops that need really heavy strumming to get any movement out of them.

Im not a lover of big "warm" (for me twarm = dead and muffled) acoustics

I guess the real answer is, get out and try LOADS

Yes, and no! Yes, the ones with HPL backs and laminated necks - but they sound great. Utterly, completely different from any Takamine. I owned one for a short time, and I would never have sold it if I hadn't bought my Gibson Dove. It sounded amazingly similar to a D28 considering the totally different materials and price.

Well that would explain it . You don't like proper-sounding acoustic guitars .

The problem is that the guitars listed above and stuff like Sigmas are few and far between oop north.
It depends what you mean by warm - I found a Gibson J45 to be warm and jazzy and liked it, but it sounds nothing like my Martin which has more brightness in it. I tried loads of Martins and found them to be one of the most inconsistent brands, the trouble is when you find a good un they are usually, very very good.
I agree on Taylors, I had a 414ce years ago and found it to be boxy and poorly balanced.

My favourite brands in that price range new are Simon and Patrick / Seagull (same maker, different features). I have never tried any of them plugged in though so can't say what the pickup systems are like. I also like the cheaper £3xx range S&P/Seagulls. Faith are nice, and the Guild GAD line is worth a look too.

Buying used is cheaper but I always feel with acoustics you should play before you buy. You can't do much to drastically alter the acoustic tone so it is always best to buy one you are happy with as it is.

I don't think Takamines are rubbish, the high end stuff is good. My old guitar teacher had one of the more expensive Tak jumbos and I really liked the tone. It played fantastically well too, and it didn't feel too overbuilt but we're talking about 7 years since I played that instrument. He had it strung with 10s as he was teaching guitar on it full time. I'm guessing Tak jumbo with 10s is Bertie's nightmare instrument haha
