Based in Milton Keynes, collection only, selling for £650.

Matamp GTH 100 watt head with 1224 switching

This British amp was designed and hand build by Dave Green and Jeff at the Matamp workshop in Huddersfield circa 2003. Based on Matamp’s GT circuitry this is their take on a Hiwatt style amp. This amp is all valve, point-to-point hand wired and the best build quality you’ll ever get in a guitar amp.

Front panel controls: Normal gain, Bright gain, Bass, Middle, Treble, Presence, 1224 valve switch and Master volume.

The 1224 switch: this makes this amp hugely flexible. 4 position rotary switch that allows you change the way the power stage is working. You have 4 options: 1 tube in class A, 2 tubes class A, 2 tubes class A/B, 4 tubes class A/B (hence known as the 1224 switch). With all 4 tubes engaged great headroom and some good drive cranked. Knock it down to 2 tubes class A/B to reduce power output to around 60 watts with a bit less headroom and more drive when cranked. In class A the amp is warmer for jazzy or blues tones, one or two tubes depending how much drive or headroom you want. This switch can be used with the amp on so you can easily switch between settings, quickly hear the difference and select to taste. You’ll quickly find your favourite settings, I always liked 2 tubes A/B and mostly used that mode.

Four EL34s in the power stage (fixed bias with bias points on the rear), AX7 preamp tubes, all quality tubes with little wear on the current set.

Black vinyl covering with silver trim over a hefty marine ply box – this amp is heavy.

This amp saw light gigging duties early on, lapsed into studio use once I stopped gigging and has not been used at all for a couple of years. Recently serviced and used for the first time in ages, still sounds fantastic. However, it is too loud for my current requirements and an expanding family needs space and cash, hence the reluctant sale.

Grab yourself a fantastic amp, not many made, if I was a collector I would keep it for sure. In excellent condition, this amp has been well cared for, and in perfect working order.

Blimey!!!! A trip down memory lane this one, fantastic to see this amp looking like it's just left Dave Green's hands, as they say " them was the days...."

May I wish you every fortune with your sale.

    Paul.

You'll remember these better than I Rob, weren't they originally called the NEC (New English Classic) or some such name?

They are pretty much matamp's take on hiwatts right? Has anyone got any clips of this beauty?

Sorry Paul, I missed your post Matey, I believe you are correct in that name. Beautiful Amp. Someone is going to get a real bargain too.
