    Default Stereophonics - Dakota

    Hi Guys

My covers band want to do this tune. Do you know the FX used on it? The main guitar fx in the intro/verse.

And is it me..or was this covered in guitarist a while back??

    Cheers for any advice

That sounds like a flanger set to a slow sweep to me.

the intro part if some sort of choppy Flanger sound - I think some pedals have a 'stepped' setting that gets very close - but you can get close enough with just a nice deep quick flange (fnar!)

In the guitar part in the choruses (that 4 note motif that gets repeated a few times) it's simply a normal Flanger - I have mine after my OD pedal and it seems to get the sound pretty close.

We play it with keys for the intro part, then I play it on guitar in the choruses.
    Red ones are better.

I've been playing it with a rotary speaker simulator (Boss RT-20) set to s low speed, not quite the same but make it your own!

This has been covered several times actually!

I covered this with a band years ago and used a Boos effect called "Slicer" with a touch of overdrive, it is, as previously mentioned a Flanger style effect.

I can't be bothered to drag my rack gear around now though so in the absence of a Flanger pedal I am using a Tremolo and overdrive... it's not the same but a cool effect anyway and works well, I guess that's the important thing, if you can get the right vibe going on I wouldn't worry about getting to picky about the precise effect.... I'm guessing this is much the same as Guitarcookie's approach with the Rotary simulator....

flanger on a slow sweep for verses, however for the 4 note riff in the chorus I always play each note with a full wah sweep, sounds nice.

I use Wah for this too - for the intro, tbh I think we sampled the original...our bass player plays it back using a looper pedal.

Must admit I use a medium sweep flange on those four notes, but at the end of the day...if it sounds good....it IS good!

We play Dakota but without and flange etc, our version goes down rather well!
