Default Tonerider pickups,LP switch,ES 335 style pre-wire, Tele prewire, LP wire kit FOR SALE

    Hi Folks,

I was doing a bit of a wiring tidy up on my JXG Flametop Custom guitar recently. I've gone through a few different sets of pickups etc over the years on that particular guitar so though it was about time to tidy it up electrically a bit and re-wire the switch and finally get one of my own kits in there too!

At the time, I made up a spare LP kit and pre-wire switch but having a bit of time over the holidays as well I've also got the soldering iron out and added a nice Tele pre-wire and custom ES Gibson style loom too, see below for more details.

    1 x LP Pre-wire switch

    Switchcraft USA extra long switch
    50's style braid used throughout
Suitable for all 2 pickup LP's, Epis, Tokais etc or project LP's.
    Diagram included

    £25 delivered (mainland UK)

OR same switch spec as above but with nice amber repro 50's style switch tip, £30 delivered:

    1 x LP pre-wire harness

2 x TVT (CTS) custom 500k short shaft volume pots (really nice taper vol pots in my opinion)
2 x MojoTone CTS Premium 500k short shaft tone pots
1 x 0.015 Shugz PIO (Ltd Run) tone cap (neck)
1 x 0.022 Shugz PIO (Ltd Run) tone cap (bridge)
    50's wiring
    Diagram included

Suitable for Historic and vintage LP's due to the short shaft pots fitted. Some Epis and Tokais and project LP's will be fine for this kit too.

    £50 delivered (mainland UK)

    Custom Telecaster loom, £50 delivered.

Oak 3 way, CTS Premiums 250k's, 50's/ 60's cloth pushback wire and a very cool Super-Tone PIO 0.047uF tone cap.

    Custom '917' ES335 style pre-wire loom:

4 x TVT (CTS) custom 500k short shaft pots
1 x 0.015 Shugz PIO (Ltd Run) tone cap (neck)
1 x 0.022 Shugz PIO (Ltd Run) tone cap (bridge)
Switchcraft USA extra long switch and 1/4" mono jack
    50's wiring
    Diagram included

    £75 delivered (mainland UK)

    Xmas Eve bump

All still available and have added a long shaft LP kit too. Same spec as the one above apart from some rather nice BK spec vol pots.
The LS kit is £55 shipped and good for all LPs. I'll upload a pic of it later on.

    Thanks for looking, cheers

I need a Tele loom, and that one looks amazing. But it's twice what I was hoping to spend. Since I know bugger all really about what makes a good pot / capacitor / loom, could you help me out (the more dumbed down the better!!).

    Hi,

Are you thinking of having a go at making one yourself? I'm more than happy to direct to good suppliers etc or I may have some parts you could use too.

Without going to OTT, there's no real rights of wrongs in guitar wiring. There's only a 'wrong' if it's not working! What I mean is there's loads of options out there from 1Meg pot (vol) and a 500k tone and 0.033uF caps to 2 x 250k pots and a 0.047uF etc etc. For a Tele though, a 'standard' sort of loom usually has the 2 x 250k pots (short, solid shaft) and a 0.047uF cap, decent OAK or 3 way type switch and cloth wiring (Switchcraft or equivalent jack). That's what I wire mine with unless the person wants something different. In fact, I'm working on one just now where the customer wants a 0.022uF cap (plus 2 x 250k split shaft pots) instead of the 0.047uF cap.

For me at least, using good quality parts is a must and whilst it won't turn anyone into a guitar-God but at least it's one less thing to worry about come gig time. That's really my thoughts on it. For Volume pots, good quality Premium range (and also custom taper, BK or TVT) CTS are great (Bourns can be good too) and caps can be anything really from Sprague OD's upwards.

There is a lot of chat re Paper in Oil caps, I like them personally and have my own range of them as you can see BUT I'm not dressing them up as the next big thing, they are just good quality caps. Yes, they are usually more expensive than the Spragues but it's really down to personal choice at the end of the day. I like and play vintage gear most of the time so the PIO ones get my vote but any decent cap that's from a good maker will do a job, horses for courses et al.

Not sure if this info is what you needed but if I can help any more by all means let me know.

    Cheers
    Hugh

Here's a pic with the short and newer, long shaft LP kit added (bottom right hand kit):

The other kit in the top left corner is a genuine 4 x 1960 (27th week) 500k Centralab loaded LP loom. It's had a life so has had 2 pot shafts replaced and Luxe BB repro caps fitted plus some repro lacquered earth hookup fitted. It's maybe not an 'everyday' sort of loom you'd fit to a regular gigger guitar but was fun to put this together (yes, I am that sad...)

    Cheers

Thanks for the explanation High. I won't pretend to have understood it all, but it has helped!

I'm not planning to wire one up myself - a recipe for disaster. Ill buy a loom, solder the pickups and jack plug on, then after ive burnt myself, the guitar and my immediate surroundings, I'll likely find a professional to do it.

I think i'm gonna go for one from axesrus who do a variety of pre wired looms. Do you rate any of them?
