Default "It was so cold I had to scrape my windscreen"

The title of this thread was said to me... on a day which I was 15 minutes late to work because...

My bikes ignition switch had frozen enough I couldn't put the key in.
    When I'd defrosted that...
The throttle cable was frozen so I had only the smallest of movements allowing a top speed of 28mph one dual carriage way - also with my brakes being less than awesome at the time I could only stop on the throttle too.
AND I had to indicate right with my hand and hope people could see my black sleeved arm with black glove at 06:10 because the indicator switch had frozen just enough that it only responded when indicating left.
I got off the bike and couldn't feel my inner thighs, or several fingers...

And then someone in radio-land said it was going to get colder... arg!

Can someone come up with a way for me to hibernate till the spring?

You need your bike looked at. Riding with dodgy brakes, lights and throttle is probably a tiny bit against the rules.

The brakes are sorted - completed rebuild on the front calliper, new seals new oil, and a new piston.
Throttle is a cable moving through a sheath, ice makes it frozen... nothing could be done on that one. Well, nothing except it being warm enough to melt the ice... which happened later and so was fine.
Getting the switch looked at, but again, temperatures that low do funny things to waterproof seals so doubt even a new switch would make a difference - works fine now it's defrosted.

we coould do with a good, cold snap down here in the SW. I've got about 8 cubic m of firewood to move down to the house, but everywhere's still a quagmire. I had to move a few barrow loads down yesterday, and hurt my knee slipping and sliding thru the mud.

Have you got a cover for your bike? Used to help with the frosty-ness when I had one.

Get a cover or chuck a blanket over it.

    Yes!

Just keep riding your bike in that condition and the coma induced from the crash that you'll have should do it!

I ride to work on bicycle, that morning air is some chilly shit. Get a bright jacket for dark mornings. Doesnt look as badass as black but might save your life.

Fill the cable with WD40. The only reason it froze is because there was water in it, which there shouldn't be - even if it doesn't freeze it could cause corrosion. WD40 will get rid of the water. After you've worked WD40 right through it, add some engine oil - used is fine.

Well, there is a way to sort that out...
