I used to use a "cable oiler". It has neoprene pads at one end- you just put the cable in and tighten it up, then fill it with oil from the other and screw the plunger in. Then when you depress the plunger it forces oil down the cable. Works a treat but apparently you're not supposed to use it on the cables of jap bikes because they have nylon between the sheath and the core, and the oil doesn't do the nylon any good. Or so I was told. But it was brilliant for the clutch & rear brake cables on my Norton. Never had to use it on the throttle cable IIRC, just as well because the cable splits into two under the tank and I would have had to lift the tank off to do the separate bits that go to the top of each carb. That's just fiddle. But the other cables you can do in situ by slackening the cable off and unhooking one end.

The traditional method of freeing frozen locks is to pee on them... however...

I second the idea of going mental with WD-40, but do avoid the brake discs and pads...

There is also the more expensive ACF-50 which stops corrosion, but also should be kept off of brakes.

Has anyone suggested handlebar muffs* yet?

Oh and a cover, but NOT a blanket - holds the wet, and aids corrosion; my mate had a CB750F? until he threw a blanket over it. Then he had a pile of rust...

Get some of that plug-in heated underwear.

    Also get some HiViz armbands.

I caught a few seconds of Antiques Roadshow yesterday where this bloke was discussing a figurine of a Victorian winter scene "...and of course, there she is, hands stuffed into her muff..." It was childish but I tittered and thought for a nanosecond I should YouTube it or something, and then I remembered I'm 49

Peoples seemed to be getting REALLY close to me when using my newly refurbed brakes... turns out the bulb blew... So that's been changed.

I've got a nice cover for the bike, that's designed so it can be thrown over even with the exhaust roasting hot... but it's a a pain in the titties to put on and take off as its big and heavy and I don't have a driveway or garage so I have to wander up and down the road carrying it and I'm normally running late in the mornings already... need a job that doesnt start at 6am, I'm not a morning person and right now it might be affecting my safeties

Would taking the cover back into the house take as much time as defrosting shit? Or the lost time from bike slowness?

Or is it ridiculously big and heavy?

Is it the shell of a Transit van?

In related news, I can heartily recommend this for scraping ice off windscreens. It's much better than any I've previously tried.
