I have to say, I'm quite upset with this guitar... Over the weekend I'd had a few enquiries about the make of pickups so when I got it home (after a weekend away during which I'd made the trade), the first thing I did was get the stings off to check the pickups. Only tonight, having polished the frets and lemon oiled the fretboard, have I had the chance to get the strings back on a plug it in. What a sound, this humble looking little guitar bl**dy rocks!!! Seriousley, it sounds fabulous, so much so that my gut instinct is to abandon my search for a Strat and keep it.

However, common sense must prevail, I need a Strat to replace my recently sold Vigier, so sell it I must.

Let me say this: if you have £300 for a new guitar, this is a great way to spend it.
**A hand crafted guitar by one of England's most highly regarded makers
**A stripped back but pure quality design (much like PRS tried to do with the Mira 15 years later)
**A name on the headstock that bucks the crowd following trend
**A tone that sticks 2 fingers up to preconceptions and if raw and raunchy rock (ACDC) is your thing it'll be your best mate

Sorry, I may have gone over the top with the hard sell - but this guitar just put the biggest smile on my face :-)

More pictures now available to view here. Please note that these were taken before I cleaned and oiled the fretboard, polished the frets and gave the scratch plate a clean to get rid of some sticky marks, so it does look better in the flesh. As mentioned earlier, if this doesn't sell then I may put some time into stripping it and giving the body some serious attention with wire wool and a fresh treatment of oil - a small amount of time on this would really make a difference.

Maaaaannnnn, I haz a want; this'd be the ideal backup guitar for me band (who're ironically also from Coventry and Birmingham ). You'd not be interested in an Ibanez Iceman IC400, I suspect?

I owned a New York once upon a time. I wonder what I'd think of it now.As I recall it was much lighter than my strat and I'd certainly welcome that these days.

Main problem I had with mine was the bridge - effectively the strings went over it at the wrong angle and used to pop out a lot. So, the bridge upgrade looks sensible.

    Good luck with the sale.

Very nice, fantastic price too! Although it'd look so much nicer without the scratch plate....

Lovely. I had a New York standard the year they came out. By the way, Eggle recommended waxing the body with beeswax.

Thank you all for the comments.

Thebeagle - I love the Ibanez Iceman, especially as a fan of System of a down, but as I took this in part exchange I'm really aiming for a straight sale.

AndrewG - yes I think you're right, a wax finish would work well. I tend to go with an oil based product with a top coat of wax to seal it, but I'll leave as is for now as there seems to be a fair amount of interest.

I'm incredibly reluctantly going to have to pull out of a potential deal on this due to van issues; a bump for Matt who's a lovely chap and to see if anyone will give me £300

No worries - I hope you soon get the van sorted.

I've had a few other enquiries today, but no definite buyer yet - I just need to reply to the PMs, so if you have PM'd me today you'll be getting a reply shortly.
