Default Good multi-fx that pairs up well with pedals?

    Hi chaps,

I've got a fine-sounding pedalboard (Keeley,TC, Xotic, Fulltone etc) but I'm tap dancing a bit too much for my liking. I recently added the Zoom MS-50G Multi stomp to sort me out on the pedals I didn't have and found that I was actually using presets made up of multi-fx. This has now got me thinking about going back to the convenience of a multi-fx unit but this time adding a couple of pedals I couldn't do without like my Keeley Compressor, Xotic EP and Fulltone OCD.

I have thought about things like the Gigrig Quartermaster as a more convenient controller with my existing set-up but that wouldn't fit on my board and I prefer to keep everything on my Pedaltrain Jr and go no bigger than that. So, I wondered if any of you could recommend a decent multi-fx unit that sounds good, particularly when used with true-bypass pedals like the above? The following look interesting and I'll try and audition them but I'd be interested to hear of any other suggestions or of people's experiences with the following pedals:-

    Boss GT-10 ?
TC Electronic Nova System (sadly, the G System is out of my price range and too big)
    Zoom G series units
    Line6 M series units

    Cheers

I'm very happy with my M9. I can imagine there might be better for some people's needs, but the M9 suits me nicely

Multi FX are good for sounds that typically end up at the end of a typical pedal chain and I think all on your list would do the job but if you start using the other sounds as well you will just end up tap dancing between multi FX floor unit + your other pedals . In that situation I'd ditch the pedals and go multi FX all the way.

    Hi Mike,

yes, I remember your one at the Gearfest. As mentioned, I'd still like to keep a couple of pedals and if I were to use something like the M9, is the best place for it at the end of my chain? I'd be looking for delays, reverbs, modulations, which I'd normally place after my compressor, overdrives, but what about pitch stuff, occasional drives and filters/autowahs, would they sound ok there too as I'd normally have them earlier in the chain. Can you insert external effects and determine the effect chain?

    Cheers

The Zoom G9.2tt has an external, switchable loop.
And I just happen to have one for sale
    Let the river flow
    Through my callused hands
And take me from my own
    The eyes of the damned

I have mine at the end of my chain, after wah, tuner and drives. I use it for pitch shift (whammy octave down), phase, flange, reverb and delay- all those are fine. I have occasionally used it as a wah when I can't be bothered carting my wah around as well- it's not quite as good as in front of the chain, but works well enough for a quick wacka-wacka once or twice in a set.

Thanks for that and I'll try one of those as it ticks quite a few boxes including being the right size to fit on the board.

The nova system sounds amazeballs, but it's a shit to program so I sold mine. (It also has a slight switching delay)
