I only ever bid in the last few minutes. There are a couple of reasons for this 1) I don't like to show my hand to other bidders 2) I don't like to tie my money up in a bid as you never know what may turn up and turn your head before the end of the auction.

I agree with the high BIN price and let people make offers, at least you're in control. Personally when I'm bidding I will only ever place one bid in the last 10 seconds or so. Any bids before this just bump the price up and are often out bid. This is why pulling the auction with 12 hours left doesn't really work as most bidders wait until the last minutes to bid, so the item will never be at a good price.

Oh and if I thought I could raise the cash I'd bite your hand off for the lester, its one classy instrument.

    Good,luck with the sale.

Whilst it's not ideal, it's method I've used before to good result. It effectively works as a reserve without paying the massive listing fee for a reserve auction. TBH I havn't used the 'high price/make an offer' but I can defo see the logic.

Nice one - and no eBay fees due!
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

sold something on eBay today. Been on a week attracting a low bid and then more than doubled in the last hour. Only a tenth of the money the OP is looking for though.
