Connecting iRig Amplitude through iPad to external speakers?

Hoping for simple advice. Just got new Hendrix Amplitude app on iPad 1 which sounds great through headphones but wouldn't work through Yamaha THR 5 (whereas iPad music tracks sounds perfect) and sounds terrible through cheap iPod dock and even worse into guitar amp. Do I need powered speakers?

I use the Alesis iO dock to connect to my digital mixer.
Not sure if Amplitude is compatible to it though.
