I'm super impressed with the old marshall guvnor. If the new ones are 1/2 as good they'd be wortha try, and they're really good value.

The new ones do rather have that top end fizz thing going on I find. I have to tweak the eq on the amp with some of these pedals but I still like it. The thing is marshalls new pedals are great for two reasons, one is that they are built like a brick - you'll never break the damn thing; the second is that, imo, they sound slightly better to some of the Boss equivilents.

I have a danelectro 56 u2 pro into a fender fm100 head and an old 60's vox cab. This sounds very good, especially the clean sound and a crunchy rhythm is sound is very nice but there isn't enough juice or definition to make single note riffs to stand out. I play my own kind of indyish funkishness, I'm after a Blood sugar sex magic kinda tone. Any ideas, preferably cheap.

Honestly you'd be surprised what a DS-1 can do, Frusciante uses one. But in general RATs are the most versatile pedals, if you don't mind the signature "dirty" kind of tone they give you.

He does use a modded one though I think...? Personally I've found many uses for the unaltered DS-1, but then I consider it more of a fizzy fuzz than a proper distortion. Great on my PBass.
