Default Modes explained for the theoretically challenged

For the first time I have a little understanding of modes now, thanks to a short YouTube video by Chappers.
If any of you guys happen upon him, give him a big kiss from me.
I'm gonna dig into this tomorrow but I'm very gratefull for his straight forward explanation.

In case anyone's as confused by modes as i, here's the 2 videos.

I've never really understood why people get baffled with modes. Play the major scale, start at a note other than the first one and bingo modes.

Droning to get context is a good idea though.

Same thing again basically, but from a Satch perspective so it's got better tone and maybe more practical applications.

Light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until they make a noise.

Personally speaking I never really made too much effort on the theory side of things, never had any lessons either to steer me in that direction so it's no wonder I'd never really got a handle on modes. If your coming from a more structured learning regime then I would guess it's probably no mystery at all, wish id made more of an effort earlier with this stuff but hey ho.

Great videos but I think it does assume that you already have some knowledge of modes, for us dimwits a great follow on from the chappers introduction though thanks

This video isn't about modes but I didn't want to clutter up the threads with nonsense, this is supposedly about interval signatures and tbh I haven't got a clue what this guy is talking about, I think he needs to work on his presentation a little but it sounds like he's making up as he goes along. Is it just me ?

I understand modes but I get confused as to why people find modes so confusing. Well, for me, I find that converting to minor helps a lot. In fact you could probably break the whole theory side of things down to key centred thinking and using harmonic and melodic minor for altered dominant chords (and applying key centred thinking to them too) and that would be enough to get you through any chord progression.
The conductor said I could get my bookbag and run around the hallway with it.

I'm sure that'll be real helpful for me down the line. Part of my problem with theory is I get ahead of myself too quick, don't give myself a chance to soak in the basics before moving on then I get lost and frustrated and give up. I need to do it properly this time, I'm gonna play around with chappers major scale modes from the vid and I'm also looking at intervals. It's hard to know exactly what to look for and what is probably of no use to me, I don't have the time or inclination to learn all there is to know about theory, a lot of it I'm thinking would be superfluous?
    Thanks for the link monquixote.
