    Default ear training

    hi im trying to improve my ears at the moment does any one know of any online site that do melody's to transcribe?
    or any tips for improving my ears in general id like to get to the level where i can transcribe a vocal melody with not to much effort. I have trouble at the moment with instruments that aren't the guitar.

    Where you are now depends on what advice I'd give.

    Work on interval recognition here: http://www.musictheory.net
    Do 20-30 examples and report back with your percentage of what you get right.

    Based on that score I can give you an idea of where to go.

    Try simple melodies such as nursery rhymes or xmas songs. They are often diatonic so a good starting point if you already know your intervals pretty well.

    I know its not for everyone but singing scales can really help you pin down the intervals of them. Or taking certain sounds you recognise to help, e.g Perfect 4th is the wedding march, 5th is Star Wars, etc.
