    Default Jazzy scales anyone?

So I'm looking to spice up some solo's. I'm listening to a lot of Alan Murphy at the moment and wondered what sort of scales you guys use to get this sort of sound. I'm rubbish with theory so any help appreciated.

Got any links to any of his playing that you like the sound of?
The conductor said I could get my bookbag and run around the hallway with it.

you could try melodic minor....just flatten the 3rd of any major scale...i think its more of a feel with him though..not so much the notes but how he plays them...he uses the trem a lot to bend into the notes and has a really smooth style

OK I'll give that a go. I'd love to use the trem more but don't have any guitar capable at the mo. Hey, just found an excuse to buy more guitars!

I hadn't heard of this guy before but he's a great player!

Well, I only listened to the first solo and I think he's doing thing such as using symmetrical patterns, chromatic notes and play arpeggios. For example, if he's playing over an E minor chord he might play an E minor 9 arpeggio or a G maj9 arp to give an extended sound to the chord.

The last lick in the first solo sounds like he's using a pattern and just moving it across all six strings, for example:

    e------------------------------------------------------------------------------------12---15---17
    B-------------------------------------------------------------------12---15---17
    G----------------------------------------------------12---15---17
    D-----------------------------------12---15---17
    A-------------------12---15---17
    E---12---15---17
The conductor said I could get my bookbag and run around the hallway with it.
