Absolutely! For example, I actually like the tone "suck" from an old Cry Baby, in some cases - it gives a nice soft old-school tone, very particular and not the same as turning down the guitar tone control or the treble on the amp. I know very few other people who agree though.

For me music/art shouldn't have the same rules put upon it as "acoustical engineering".
Agreed, but what we're talking about here is the tone change in many vintage-style fuzzes caused by putting buffers in front of them. Most people think they don't sound as good like that - for same reason as me - so to me, it makes sense to take that into account when building a board, which is what this thread is about!

(Or originally, which order to put the compressor and the overdrive in, but the other question became important when I saw he was using a Fuzz Factory.)

If you want to then ignore that because you really want the sound you get with it the "wrong" way round, that's fine too - I just think it's helpful to know what to expect.

Cool. I just didn't think that this...

...was particularly helpful. That's why I mentioned it.

The only reason I did mention it was because I thought it might be very helpful, if he got the idea that putting the compressor before the overdrive meant that putting it before the Fuzz Factory as well was a good idea!

I'd recommend he gives it a go. Especially if he intends to leave the comp on and is looking for a slightly different sound.

You have maybe already tried this combination and didn't like it. I'd certainly give it a go rather than taking someone's word that it sounded "bad". Tastes vary, this I have learned.
