Default Fender to close Hamer Guitars

Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, but I couldn't see it.

Seems a shame to close a whole brand.....who else are they likely to close?

Even more shocking to me is the statement that Guitar Centre have debts of $1.5 billion - holy moly!

apparenetly a lot of the USA hamer staff are working on guild stuff so its a loss of a brand rather than a loss of jobs.

I'm suprised they are closing it rather than selling the brand name. I presume it musn't have been worth that much as a brand / no takers
Perhaps they will sell the rights to the brand at another time and it might resurface.
There's likely to be some redundancies even if it's not manufacturing staff. Feel sorry for the people it impacts

Hamer were never 'fashionable' though. Other brands got better used, Jackson, Charvel, Dean, Ibanez etc.

I've been following guitars/guitarists/guitar music since the 70s and I can't name one Hamer player off the top of my head.

    Rick Neilsen!

Three more I can think of off the top of my head...

    Tom Dumont (No Doubt)
Steve Stevens (a while ago, and he switches brands a fair bit)
Martin Turner (Wishbone Ash) - bass

I agree it would be a shame if the brand disappears entirely, but I wonder if it has any real value? It's a bit too associated with the 80s, and possibly with the cheap Korean models they made when they were owned by Kaman, which didn't help I don't think.

It's a shame, but the only thing I really associate them with is silly 28 fret widdle sticks from the 80's and blingy double cuts that cost too much new and went for pennies secondhand.

I wonder if Jol Dantzig will be able to/be interested in buying the name and keeping them going as a smaller operation?
