USA Hamer guitars were great, well built, but not many stores had them, none in my area. Seems there was no desire for guitar shops to stock them? I never owned one and I bet 99% of people here didn't either

Companies and their names come and go and always have, especially when they are bought out by larger corporations.

You only have to look at the names lost to the British automotive industry over time, Wolseley, Riley, Austin, Morris etc etc.

Time change, you don't see any Harmony, Kay or Stella guitars now either.
    Cheers,
    Neil

Very true indeed. To be honest, I'm over it.

I mentioned he was an endorsee earlier in the thread. The guitar he was playing was called the Phantom - odd looking, but really comfortable. A shop I dealt with a lot in the 80s had one in stock. I was sorely tempted at the time. I agree that the Paul a hamer era sunbursts were great. Get the feeling Fender were only interested in the brand in an effort to try to capture some of the PRS market, yet they never seemed to promote it.

I did, very briefly - a USA Sunburst Archtop that I took in a trade. It was a fantastic guitar, but - and I know this sounds stupid and trivial - I absolute hated the fake ivory binding. Sold it quite quickly.
