Thanks once again for info about Thunderbirds. I formed my impression that they'd be deep mainly from an interview with John Entwhistle I read years ago & then it was really me interpretting what he said. I have seen/heard maybe 2 people playing them but could never really tell that much by the time it came out the mix. (To me the bass is usually mixed too far back- but there could be good reasons).

Not sure I'm a "real" Stranglers fan as I became less keen after Men In Black, but I think Golden Brown is one of their best, one of Hugh's most beautiful solos too & he can do them when he wants.
Silence isn't a skip, you don't have to fill it with rubbish. (Though that never seems to stop me.)

Some cool bass sou da in this thread.

I had a thunderbird for a while. It never really struck me as deep or clear, more of a lower mid heavy sound that sits well in a busy mix.

Best metal bass tone I've heard for ages:

It's a Dingwall Combustion fanned fret bass with a Fractal Ax-FX that is emulating a Darkglass B7K Preamp.

Love the Darkglass sound. My B3K was costly, but its such a versatile and great sounding pedal.

    HOLY SHIT, THAT IS INCREDIBLE.

Love Periphery. Incredible bass tone... right up there with that Karnivool track.

I also have some videos of myself playing guitar. Here they are.

This is the sound Alex Webster (he of Cannibal Corpse fame) gets from a Darkglass pedal:

Particularly from around 0:25 and at 0:58 ish... incredible.

    My favourite bass tones:

The Smiths - William, it was really nothing

Flea - Pretty much all of his stuff BSSM, and most of his other stuff, too

Muse - Wolstenholmes' finest moment, Hysteria. Fuzzy, synthy awesome.
