I set myself a target of being the same weight when I reach 50 as I was when I was 30. I set it long enough ago that it was perfectly achievable.

I've lost 1st in the last 3 months, and plan on doing the same in the next 4 months. So it's been a gradual weight reduction over a longish period based on a lifestyle change more than a short-term diet.

5 days of the week, I eat "sensibly"; eat main meal at lunchtime, avoid alcohol, snacks/chocolate completely. On the other 2 days, those rules are relaxed .... but I've found that I now have a lot less appetite for alcohol, snacks, chocolate etc on the relaxed days anyway. It means that no foods/drinks are completely banned (as they would be on most diets), so I've found that I don't miss them the same as I might.

And a little exercise (30-60 mins on cross-trainer, bike, treadmill) every other day.

I need to bulk up really. It's all about the protein right? I've been eating healthily and exercising (light cardio) for the best part of last year just to tone up, but as the flab came off it did not reveal the rippling pecs and abs I'd hoped would be there.

unfrtunately, with very few exceptions, the only way to lose weight is - energy expended has to be greater than calories consumed, end of. There are a couple of ways of 'tricking' the system, but they're tbh more hassle than not eating.

Low carb diets are good and can work very well but that is low carb not no carb and I know people that have had some success with this 'fasting' diet, but ultimately get moving eat less crap and you'll lose weight...

That is an excellent fitness program. My girlfriend has used it. It will get you fit and will make you lose weight. The problem a lot of people have with fitness DVDs is that just having a copy of it doesn't do anything - you have to actually push yourself to see results. If you're willing to do that then Insanity is great.

For losing weight and getting fit and healthy, i'll always reccomend fighting of some sort (controlled, of course!) Here's a clip from my MMA gym xmas do. Check out how fat i am at the start compared with the end after my sumo suit had deflated. A good 2ft off the waist in barely a minute. I nailed two nice submission attempts here but was far too pissed to finish them, unfortunately, dammit. heh (My back is toward the camers at the start).

Being totally honest, I'm fully expecting to pile on the pounds this year...since I'm currently in the first few days of being a non-smoker.

Then again, I've been pretty much exactly the same weight (89kg) for about 10 years now. In that time, I've gone from a 28" waist to a 36" waist...so it's entirely possible that my weight will stay exactly the same, but yet more of me will dissolve into the wobbly mass around my middle.

96kg ?! man I better get shifting some weight i'm over that and I didn't consider myself fat :/

I used to press and work out a lot but recently ive not had time and gotten super lazy so perhaps I don't see it.

I do however wanna loose a few stone. I was at one point 22stone and got down to 11 in the space of a year using the Cambridge diet and a few friends have lost some also.

I've stopped smoking so I think the next thing deffo has to be the weight.

guitars look like toys on me now.

This - I fast for 2 24hr periods a week and eat normally the rest of the time. Combined with regular cardio exercise means seems to work well.
