I am looking for a practice tool of some kind.

I've not decided what form of thing it's going to be (Amp or FX unit), but I am especially interested in Fender Mustang range and the Zoom G3.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm quite happy recording on my laptop.

I really want something for practising rather than recording, though that does look very cool.

Ah. Only other thing I've got is an as new TC Electronic nova system. Covers the multiFX but not amp sims.
