    Sorry for any offense.
thats my last on the subject.
Firstly, since you seem to have a thing about my responses to your posts, no it is not all about my opinion. Everyone's opinion here is valid. We can all learn from different viewpoints.

But there is a difference between a subjective opinion as to whether one thing is better than another, and an opinion about something that's physically measurable or can be demonstrated easily by a test to not be so.

Both of the things you stated as opinions can be clearly and simply shown to be wrong with some very simple tests. Some of the things you used as evidence to back yourself up turned out to be wrong as well. (Even by your own admission on one.)

And once again, you make spurious claims about something I said. I never mentioned Champs - yes, they do have actual, overdriven speaker breakup. It sounds farty, is certainly bassy but not in a very 'musical' way or actually very deep sounding, and tends to blow the speaker. (Check the number of old Champs with replacement speakers for evidence.) If you run a Tweed Champ through a Marshall 4x12" wired for 4 ohms - yes, I have done this - you will get a *huge* amount more bass out of it - it sounds like a quieter Tweed Bassman, really. But according to your argument, that little amp won't drive all those big speakers well, and it will sound better through a single 10". Seriously?

At that point I will leave it too, since there's no point in arguing with someone who has clearly never tried it.

Back to the OP's question, I have a Marshall JTM45 sat on a 2x12 Celestion cab in my living room, I also have a little 5w Chinese valve amp with pretty much the same generic circuit as your Epi VJ.

Even at living room volume, played absolutely clean, the Marshall sounds deep, powerful and authoritative, as you may expect, and the little combo (with its 8" Celestion) sounds like a little fartbox, which can be cool for the odd solo, but that's about it.

If I plug the 5w combo into the 1x10 Eminence of my Pro Jr it improves a lot, and starts to sound like a guitar amp instead of a toy, but when I plug it into the 2x12 it actually sounds pretty much the same as the Marshall, in fact scarily so.

Try to borrow a 2x12, or take your Epi to a shop to try one, you won't even believe it's the same amp. I'm actually a big fan of 10" speakers for gigging, but only in some specific styles. If you buy a 2x12 you can use it for the rest of your life, for any style, with any amp, in any situation.

I agree. A good cab is a good investment. 2x12s are the jack of all trades size - they'll fit in the boot of most cars, most people can lift them up stairs, and they still sound nice and big.
