Thanks all for your input, it's given me some good names to look out for. I don't trust music shops much as I find they don't listen to what I'm after, so experienced advice is always preferred

Appreciate some of the ambiguity in my post too - by bang for buck I really mean "What's a nice acoustic for about or under £150, like how good my Squire Tele is for the same".

Would be happy with a smaller body (wouldn't we all), my bowl back is very comfortable sized it's just the very high action and not-quite-there-but different-on-each-string intonation that is the problem there. I couldn't fix that myself and for an instrument that cost £30 as damaged stock it hardly seems worth spending money on it. The intonation is bad on the other one actually, which I think is a Washburn or something like that. Decent tone (massive though) considering, but a very thin neck.

Problem with Ebay is getting to try them out, so I reckon it'll have to be a shop. I'm happy buying kit online but not instruments.

Re electro, thats a good point that you'll get extra quality without paying for the electro gubbins, I'd just get a Woodie pickup if I need that and I can use it for a diddly bo then too
