    Default HT5 Footswitch .....

..... thinking of removing the cable 'cos it's stupidly short and replacing with a jack socket and normal cable. Is it worth it, or just build a footswitch?

I just use a guitar cable and one of those cheap JHS switchs, sometimes the amps about 5 metres away so I need the length

It's far easier to fit a jack to an existing footswitch than to build a new footswitch .

Only the very earliest amps had the short lead, they barely reached the ground with the mini stack! The new one is not 15feet tho' I don't think. You could just buy a cheapo RockBottom 1/4" headphone extension (curly lead! Phoar!) since the normally crappity crap socket will have no effect for a DC circuit.

ICBM. Maybe the OP wants to keep the accessories pristine for possible resale? (anyway "we" should never discourage 'tronics DIY!)
BTW the cable can be as long as you like. As can the 9pin ones for the Series One. I made up quite a few 20mtr jobbies, worked fine.

Fitting a jack to a footswitch is still DIY .

I've always thought that footswitches with captive cables are a bit crap, actually - apart from 'historically significant' ones like the original Fender chrome cone ones - and that a nice quality jack fitted properly (usually easy, the cable hole is normally the right size if a cable clamp is used) is such an upgrade that no-one would mind the loss of 'originality'. Even if the length is right, the cable usually breaks at the clamp eventually anyway. A separate replaceable cable solves all...
