    ha!

It's about £30 a lesson. So not too bad, and it will be an intensive course on sight reading. Which is what I would love to do competently!

I get that feeling too, or something like it. It's horrible, that nagging knowledge that I'm not good enough juxtaposed against an audience who seem to be having fun.

Since I was 14 I've wanted to be on stage and play, and as all my originals bands came to naught I gave up on that idea... only to accidentally end up in a covers band years later and, for a couple of hours down the Dog & Duck on a Saturday night I get to act out my teenage daydreams and get to be Johnny Ramone, Schenker, and Slash, (and whoever wrote "Sex on Fire").

There's just this horrible feeling that someone's gonna see through the act and tell me to grow up and learn how to play properly.

EDIT. Sorted. Gonna have lessons too.

+1 on thinking about lessons. I've kind of decided to sign up to the trufire TV for a year first as there are a lot of video lessons and they seem fairly structured and can be done at my own pace. Cos I'm busily learning (new) songs for our new band and doing lots of repetition to try to make sure my performance is OK then there isn't a huge amount of time left over at the mo for technical improvement.

But lessons are great. I had some classical lessons a year ago and they were really inspiring and enjoyable - I had a good teacher !

I thought of this thread earlier. I was talking to a piano teacher on the phone (my eldest wants to try lessons) and she was talking about what she teaches, pauses and says "oh, you're a musician aren't you?" to which I replied, without pausing for thought, "no, I just play guitar"

That's certainly how I feel about myself.

I got Rocksmith for Christmas, so at least I'm now learning to play actual songs. Good enough.

If someone tells you to grow up and learn to play properly, do you really give a Sh*t what they are like as a person? If that hypothetical person is a musician, they should realise what it's all about at every level and shut the f*ck up.

I'm only an average guitarist by comparison, but if I was in a band and had people up dancing to us, I would get a high from it too

Just need to find the right band.
