    I missed that!

    I like that a lot!!

I think what I'm really after building is the famous Gretsch/Tele hybrid, but more 'jazz'

    http://www.gretsch-talk.com/forum/pi...pictureid=7081

And with a tele bridge pickup. Now that one definitely has a back angled neck, which is something I don't have the tools to do. I'd like to have a tailpiece instead of the bigsby, and could probably recess a tune-o-matic if I needed to. If I wanted to do that, do you think I would have to shim the neck an unreasonable (i.e. uncomfortable) amount to maintain the string tension? or would I get away with it? It looksl ike it might be more effort than it's worth...

edit: Just realised I'm repeating myself. Oh well. I really like the idea though....

    I made a resolution that I wouldn't buy any instruments in 2013!

I'm finding that difficult enough already!

The whole point of recessing the TOM is that you then don't need any angle on the neck.

I'm so gutted. I found a perfect guitar to use as a base for this for 30 quid. I didn't buy it when I first saw it, came back to the shop a bit later with the cash and it had been sold. Dammit!

I shall be turning this Variax 500 body and neck

Into a proper guitar. The pickups in the picture are an iron gear blues engine and a GFS thing that I have had lying around for a while.

When I bought the variax, the previous owner left a Roland GK2 pickup attached to it - you can see it more clearly here

I will try to use the internals from that to fit the electronics and switches internally.

I also have an interesting finish planned for the guitar, but I want to leave that as a surprise (most of all to me, if it works).

Net of the value of the variax electronics, I'm well under £100 outlay for this lot. I also have a Rothwell Audio "Cool little knob" from another project that I might throw into the mix (the GFS pickup is four conductor), but that might take the total outlay above £100 - will have to think about that.

this is going to be the base of mine. Not sure what to do with it pick up wise yet. I did wonder about a single split able bucker at the bridge. Or maybe a pair of p90's .

So what's the rules for the unlimited challenge?
Is it still a case of having to be finished by a set date but with an unlimited budget?

I've still not made that La Cab I started a few months ago, yet I don't want to rush it...
