My most expensive piece of gear (taking into account the fact I've had it since the mid-90's so talking in today's prices) is my Les Paul Studio, which never gets played at gigs with my current band as it doesn't suit the sound as well as my MiM Tele does.
I play it as my main guitar at home, however, and if I ever do the Blues-Rock power trio that I dream of one day putting together, the LP will be my weapon of choice.

Probably my expensive bit of kit is my Custom Shop 62 Block inlay 335 although my 85 Jap Squier heavily modded gets played the most as it is just soooo comfy , the 335 and the new LP ( thanks GuitarTom ) need more playing , but there is something about a well worn Strat

Most-used at the minute is my Vintage EST96 5-string bass, as I hardly have time to play in the house any more; to be honest though, even if I did it'd be my bitsa 'Esquire' (which is probably about the same in terms of value) or a cheapy acoustic (getting another Vintage soon to replace the parlour acoustic I sold last year). So aye, for instruments my cheapies are the most used; however, in broader terms, my most expensive (certainly most valuable) piece of music gear is my studio monitors, and they get used all the bloody time.

Most expensive piece of gear was my £19.99 first acoustic.

If I hadn't bought it I might not have spent so much in the 32 years since handing that £20 note over.

One of the guitars I use most at the minute is my Vintage Les Paul copy, which gets used for all my band rehearsals and anything I play at home tuned to Eb. Cost me less than £200, so it's one of my cheapest guitars but I love it.
My name is Connor and I have a GAS problem.

I also have some videos of myself playing guitar. Here they are.

I'm glad it's not just me then.

The question is why do we all lust after these pretty big ticket guitars when we're more likely to pick up a beaten up squier. Afraid to damage them or some deep seated psychological thing going on here?

Convenience. My cheap Aria is easy to reach and is easier to just sit on the sofa and noodle on, since it's the smallest body of any of them. The little Marshall is solid-state, so no need to wait for it to warm up or worry about shortening valve life.

I use my expensive guitars and amps for gigs, that's what they're for .
