If I'm actually practicing properly for something I use the gear I'll be using, exactly for that reason. I now have four rather different guitars too (that hasn't always been so), so it could make a really big difference. My Aria 'Strat' and my Les Paul Signature really don't have a lot in common other than six strings...

But most of my playing is not practice, it's just noodling in the evening or testing repaired gear, so for that I tend to use the stuff that's most convenient. The Aria for its small body, and the fact it's the quietest acoustically, as well as being on a hanger in the living room; the little solid-state Marshall because its easier to carry around the house and doesn't have valves to warm up and wear out, and the odd loose pedal (Rat, old Crybaby, ZVex Loop Junky etc) instead of the full pedalboard.

The question is why do we all lust after these pretty big ticket guitars when we're more likely to pick up a beaten up squier. Afraid to damage them or some deep seated psychological thing going on here?
You were brainwashed into buying something that had too much prestige attached to it ?

If I had bought one of these when they were about £350 then it would have been one of those cheap guitars we are talking about .
But no ...now if I buy one im going to be thinking how I missed out on a bargain .
Plenty of other bargains out there .

my go to guitar that sits on a stand in the livingroom is a vintage icon strat copy ...i paid £40 for it without pickups and put some in out of a tokai guitar...i even do quite a lot of recordings with it...the rest of my good guitars stop in the cases...i sometimes wonder why i want new gear when the one that gets used most of the time is the cheapest....

i also have a line 6 M13 that i use live and only use the delay setting on it..another waste of money..

I have 4 instruments worth over £2K, but my go to instrument is a heavily modded, battered old American strat.

My no 2 is a heavily modded cheap hohner tele that I originally bought for about £50.
Custom Tele • Customised JS100 • Fender Jazz V RH bass
    Status bass • Mojo strat • MIJ 62RI strat • Taylor 814CE
Paduak 12 string Chapman stick • inflatable sex doll
imitation wobbly breasts • cute rubber fondling ass
