It could be. And it is. It was a total waste of time. But obviously, he's getting paid for it, so he's gonna do it.

The guy needs to just quit while he's ahead.

Best thing he's done recently was the 3rd Black Country Communion album which FINALLY took the band in the right direction... darker, proper rock songs instead of that... first album... which musically was good but lyrically was horrible.

Agreed, on all points. I was a real nay-sayer at first with BCC but they seem to have really grown into what they do.

And in typical fashion, just as they got somewhere worth being at, they break up because Joe Bonamassa is too far up his own arse to care about one of the only worthwhile records/projects he's been involved with.

I remember him "shushing" fans at a gig a couple of years ago. Don't really get that. Told us all to stop cheering/clapping. Why? We want to enjoy it, and he told us to shush!!!

Have now heard the free funk track. It's okay, reasonable 70's homage but IMHO the rest of the band get it more right than Bonamassa does (some great Return to Forever style keyboard parts) . Still, if you are looking for a soundtrack to a retro porn movie look no further.

And he has an acoustic album coming out soon and has announced autumn solo gigs. I can't keep up!

I actually thought it was the drums that let it all down - Not that he's a shoddy drummer by any stretch of the imagination, but the ultra-tight, "session drummer" sound didn't suit the funk thing, it needs to have a more organic sound, in my opinion.

I do like JB and I buy his new stuff when it comes out but ...man I have a hate/ hate thing for acoustic guitars at the best of times, and neither his songwriting nor his singing are what really draws me to his music, so without those ridiculously cleanly picked solos, I don't know if I'll risk his acoustic thing.
I know he maintains he's not spreading himself too thinly, and the magazines defend him, saying "yes but look at the quality of what he's putting out!" but really I think he needs to learn the meaning of the maxim "less is more"

I buy Classic Rock about 3 times a yearand then regret it. Anyway, there is a live Bonamassa acoustic track on the cd with one of those and does nothing for me. In the context of a whole JB album or show an acoustic song is fine but a whole bunch of them, well, meh.

The funk track, more 70's fusion than funk in a sense. What sense? Yeh, in the sense that it is clever playing but doesn't groove enough. Flipped between that track and Funky Kingston by Toots and the Maytalls which is basically primeval in terms of playing and recording next to the JB track but it grooves like a m**********r in comparison.
