Default I've sold a guitar on ebay and need some advice

This is potentially a long story so I'll keep it as short as possible.

In September, I sold a guitar on ebay for over £200. This was to fund a guitar I was bidding on during the following week. However, the winning bidder didn't respond to emails requesting payment for a number of days and I began to get irate with him.

To complicate matters, the listing was collection only which he ignored and asked me to post it down south. He also started to ask whether or not the guitar was original. I could sense that I had a time waster on my hands. To add to all of this, and to put politely, he wasn't of English nationality. Communication was difficult.

I agreed to post it as I didn't want the hassle of relisitng it. It ended up being either £16 or £20. I told him this and he was happy with £20 to cover insurance. I told him whichever he prefered I would add the postage to the invoice. Instead, a couple of days later he decided to pay but without the postage amendment. The sale was going bad to worse.

I got back to him and made him aware that he hadn't paid postage and for him just to send it via paypal. He got back to me when he felt like saying he didn't know how to do that. To make life easier, I sent him an invoice just for postage. Twice. He's paid neither.

At this point, I thought, 'Stuff you, the balls in your court.' After a month or so he got back to me saying that he needs the guitar and that I have to give him notice cos he's busy or something. I told him, once he pays the postage, I'll send the guitar. I haven't heard back from him since 15th December.

So, it's been 4 months and I still have the guitar. The transaction still feels all very up in the air and I'm curious as to what my rights are. I don't want to refund him cos I don't feel like I should have to, and in all honesty, I'd like to write it off and move on.

What are everyone's thoughts on all of this? I'd appreciate any opinions.

Doesn't he only have 45 days to open a dispute. If so I'd say your 200 and a guitar up. However I'd send the money back less any fees you've paid, unless you an reclaim the fees from eBay.

The wife just said something interesting. Could this be (on the buyers part not yours) a form of money laundering. They buy with dodgy money, don't collect goods, get 'clean' money refund from PayPal.

Fuck him right off for goodness sake. Move on now and sell it as you intended.

Interesting. I'd like to believe that I have the bonus of his money and still have my guitar; however, I'm worried that what your wife said could happen. Having said that, I've checked his feed back of which he only has 9 and people have had similar problems. Not only that, he has bought Fernandes guitars before. Is this fishy or is he a genuine Fernandes fan?

Haha very much the attitude I'm on the cusp of taking.

Yeah a bit of an unusual one to say the least .
I dont think youve done anything wrong ....youve just been waiting patiently for the buyer to confirm a method for collection or delivery . In theory the guitar belongs to him , youve already sold it as intended he just hasnt collected it yet . Hang on to it and have fun spending the money .

I'd email hm once more and say that if he doesn't pay the postage fee by the 1st Feb you intend to sell the guitar to someone else.
The conductor said I could get my bookbag and run around the hallway with it.

Refund the money and relist the guitar.

It's a very bizarre situation, but you can't keep his cash.

Put it back up for sale and - when it sells - refund the dweeb.

    End O'Story.

What is it? I might buy it just to piss him off.

Haha I think it's gonna end up heading that way; I'd prefer everything to be kosher. It's a cream 80s revival, 70s headstock. I listed it on here before ebay but unfortunately gathered no interest
