    Yawn!
Not only that...I listened to the first track, and it sounded like a 12 year old jamming over the top of a badly-played backing track based on One Big Rush. There's no way I'd want this guy teaching anyone I know, and that's before I saw the asshole teaching antics.

The drill-sergeant approach is great for those who need to be scared into practicing. From experience, though, people who actively want to get better don't need that at all. The first major turning point in my playing came at the age of 13, when my new guitar teacher convinced me that I could play Surfing With The Alien if I really applied myself. I'll always see that as the template for success, rightly or wrongly.

Well said 'digitalscream'. This knobhead is going to put people off playing. When I was 12-13 I wanted to be able to play tunes by the bands I loved..I kept at it constantly til I was happy with it(ish) People should be encouraged to work towards playing the tunes that inspire them to play, NOT sit there like a dickhead hitting strings with a pick one at a time for hours on end! A good tutor inspires their students. This guy should be used as an example of how NOT to inspire and teach people! I'd want my money back!!

I think Pebber is being taken out of context a bit here. I have stuck on quite a few videos of his in the past and its very rarely he carries on saying people suck, very rarely indeed. If you only see the 1 or 2 videos he is messing about in but not the 50 where he isnt then I guess its easy to assume he is a twat.

I quite like his humour and actually hoped he was giving off about people all the time and there werent that many videos to be found.

I do agree though about "practising what you preach" and found his technique lacking quite a bit. He does know his theory though! very very knowledgeable indeed.

I'm a bit surprised at the anti- sentiments here.

In coaching there are as many good approaches as there are bodies of people who respond well to them.

In the same way that some physical trainers are all in-your-face, because it both suits their preferred style and they have clients who welcome and benefit from it, then this particular approach to motivation is equally valid and effective for the right students. The same is true of the kindly-friend approach, and many places inbetween.

He seems to have a wealth of free material so I'd be staggered if anyone didn't know what they were getting.

Some people need to believe in someone stronger than themsleves. It's a bit short-termist as they're never really going to generate it for themselves.

I think it's better to help people find their own strength, but if I'm honest - I feel technique playing has a foundation of insecurity, anyway, people can't say if you're playing good music or not - it's subjective, but people can tell you your technique sucks.

My technique sucks and I don't play very musically. Consequently I seek out kindly, reassuring teachers

(I am being neither sarcastic nor ironic unfortunately )

I create and play music I like therefore I have no need of any teachers. I appreciate that might change if I start liking shred music

I don't know what other people say about my playing - I doubt it's ringing with praise

I look for mentors. As a kid, I found too many teachers arrogant and sermonizing.

Where the people, I've been taught bass and guitar by, differ is:

    1) They've made it was practitioners of the instrument, in bands or sessions etc.
    2) They've a positive attitude that encourages independence and self-esteem.
    3) I respect them.

I think I fulfill the role of "harshest critic of me" myself. I (now) record a lot of my own playing/practice (as some gets sent in to my Truefire tutor) and it can make for painful listening/watching. It's been an eye opener, so personally I don't need a very critical other person, I need support and encouragement, but I know plenty of folk who relish harsh input.

I kinda think there are parts of my life where I benefit from that, like circuit training, climbing tall buildings, but I think that's basically as I've a lot of unresolved issues around them... from the issues I have resolved, smoking, anger etc I'd say I'll make more progress far faster by sorting that shit out... but that's just me

I've got issues about learning guitar but they're stave off by not having a pushy teacher - most of my issues stem from that when I was 6
