You're better off without integrated graphics as it can steal CPU cycles more than a cheap PCIe card can. Even a £20 fanless GPU works better. You'll have the option of dual output too. Seems like a good price otherwise.

Building it yourself is a piece of piss though. Everything can only go in one place and if you get it wrong the worst that can happen is it just won't boot up.

Building a PC is a lot easier than you think. I'm someone who baulks at soldering components onto a board when it comes to building pedals. I'm fucking useless at it. The desktop PC I have on right now was a self-build and is seven years old now. It's had upgrades when needed, most recently a new PSU (the old one was 300 watts for goodness sake!) that is super-quiet and a fabulous new case. Still running an Athlon 64 processor, 4GB RAM with Windows XP. Best of all, the silent CPU heatsink has worked flawlessly.

I'm currently building up a list of things I need to do to get into recording. I'm very much trying to utilise older technology instead of the latest stuff. I don't want 64 bit processing, CD quality sound is fine with me so the Delta 44 soundcard doesn't need replacing. I'm going to go with Reaper as the main DAW, downloaded Adobe Audition 3 for free today (Adobe still have it as a free download), and will start testing out plug-ins.

It really will save you a lot of cash to build your own PC.

I built an Intel i5 system just before xmas. I got the i5 with fan, motherboard and 8Gb ram from Novatech as a bundle for £250 and then spent another £100 on a case, harddrive and DVD writer. The build took less than 15 minutes as modern boards don't use jumpers to set multiplier and clock speed, it's all auto. And there's no configuring master, slave or CS for drives anymore because all harddrives and optical drives are self configuring SATA.

You could build an i7 system for about £500 or so

On Novatechs website you can buy the CPU already in the board with the fan attached and the ram in. You put that in a PC case, plug the power supply in, screw in the drives, attach the sata cables and your ready to load Windows

Everything has a unique keyed connector so you can't get it wrong

Even if you accidently short out the motherboard somehow you won't damage it as PC power supplied are switched mode and won't start unless the load is correct

Current i3, i5 and i7 processors use 1155 motherboards. But if your buying the bundle you don't need to worry about that

Typical popular i7 bundle is here :

Building a PC is a lot easier and a lot less hassle than changing a consumer unit

Current is now Socket 2011 not 1155, although 1155 would still serve you well for many years.

I need to redo my PC DAW at some point, and I just specced this for about £800

Gigabyte socket 2011 motherboard (this brand usually works best for DAWs for some reason)
    16GB 1600mhz DDR3 RAM
    256GB OCZ SSD HDD
    2TB WD 7200rpm data drive
    i7 3820 (3,6ghz) Socket 2011 CPU
    Be Quiet 550W modular PSU
    Win 7-64

You'd need to add on about £100 for a case, DVD drive and cheap ass fanless GPU, but you're getting latest spec chipsets for a slightly longer future proof and upgradability.

One thing to avoid in a DAW is wireless. It usually messes with your DPC latency quite badly. It might be ok, but it probably won't be.
