    Default Fender Supersonic Twin

Anyone on here who gigs with a Fender Supersonic Twin (not the 22 or 60w version!). Looks great on paper but curious to know whats it like out in the real world of gigging?

A good friend of mine works for Fender and when I asked him about it he said steer clear cause they break a lot. Better with the 60w.

Interesting!! For the money involved you don't want to be buying trouble!!

I can't think of many situations where you would need more power than the 60 provides.

Kenny Wayne Shepard uses one IIRC.

Edited for accuracy. If you see the Premier Guitar Rig Rundown, when quized by Mrs Dirks he basically uses the Bassman setting very occasionally, a bit of Fender trying to get the Supersonic Twin on the world stage me thinks.

But anyway, Supersonics are great amps but I agree that the Twin looks overkill, the 60 could take down buildings, the twin must be able to evacuate continents!

    Here we go again...

It's not about the volume .

If you want the big tone of the 100W power section and two speakers, the 60 is not going to do the job as well regardless of how "loud" it is.

I haven't seen any problems with the Supersonic Twin yet, but they're probably rare enough that it's not a representative sample. The previous generation of Twins had a couple of issues, but not serious and not unique to the Twin - typical modern-Fender or even modern-PCB-amp problems, so I wouldn't expect the smaller models to be any more immune either.

    Default Original twin and pedals?

Have you thought about getting a regular Twin? You can pick them up relatively cheap these days (£500-700 and that's on Fleabay) and they'd certainly be alot cheaper than the Supersonic Twin. With what you save, you could invest in 1-2 decent drive pedals to take care of your overdrive.

Just a thought and I think they might even be a tad lighter than the Supersonic (always have been heavy amps).

It doesn't have to be a traditional 'clean Twin' - I like the previous 'Pro Tube Twin' and especially the one before that, the 'Evil Twin' - which is *not* the Red Knob or Black Knob 'The Twin'! - although those are OK too. They all have that beautiful huge deep Twin clean sound (The Twin a bit less so), it's just the distortion channel that varies. Part of the reason for it is actually the very good - but very heavy - Fender blue-label 'Special Design' speakers, they're much better than the brown/yellow label ones.

So how do you identify the evil twin then? I though that it was the black knob, the twin.

The 60 is available as a head, you could have a 4x12 if you want. I don't see why having 10 times more clean headroom you need for any practical application is any more helpful than having 5 times more.
