Default Electronic practice kit Yamaha DD 55

I was thinking about getting one of these (see the link) as a midi trigger for my Boss 880 drum machine so that I can record stuff on the fly like tom rolls and little things that I forgot to include in the actual patterns but was wondering about the double kick facility ,can I assign 2 foot switches for double kick work?

Word of warning, do not go for the DD 65 - the hihat pedal doesn't send MIDI controls properly, so you can't use it to play open/closed hats into an external device / sequencer (although with the onboard sounds its fine). This isn't an issue with the 55 tho (but please double check yourself on that!).

If you're playing live then I don't think you'll be able to do that, but if you're happy to overplay them parts you could just use the kick and hihat pedals to play it, then reassign the hihat peddle note in the sequencer. Bit messy but it should work.

I've got the DD55 but not the foot pedals, got mine second hand without them.

Word of warning, you can NOT change the MIDI notes that come out of the DD55, even though it says so in the manual. You're stuck with whatever the machines spits out. If that works for you, great, if not I'd look elsewhere. It's a known issue for this thing, as you can imagine it won't get fixed.

This obviously has an impact on your ability to assign two foot switches to the same sound - it can be done externally but not within the DD55.

    Hope that helps,
