    Anything other than Elixirs.

They really are a Marmite thing. I know some people like them...

The answer is DRs, actually. They have the best characteristics of coated strings (long life) combined with those of non-coated ones (everything else!).

Thank you all for your input everyone, really appreciated.

Well, it seems like I will have to try a few different sets to see what I like best. I'll probably start with DRs.

Its strange though that I like D'addarios so much on my electrics but really dislike the uninspiring and dull sound they produce on my acoustic.

have you tried Newtone Masterclass Strings? Worth trying, if only because they are different to yer average string. Might suit your guitar. http://www.newtonestrings.com/acoustic_page.htm

Just checked that site, interesting and the sets are not expensive. I found particularly interesting the heritage series which have low tension and supposedly will be easier to play. Has anyone tried these?

Yes I've tried Newtones. They're nice, they are maybe slightly easier to play but I didn't notice anything drastic swapping back to Daddarios. On my previous acoustic they were the best sounding string.

The one caveat IIRC is you can't cut off string excess until the string is wound to pitch, or at least the sets I have said that. I thought that this warning was rubbish, and then one time I clipped my string before winding and it the winding genuinely started unravelling itself. So if they still come with that warning on the pack I would definitely listen to it!
