Default ambient guitar spoken word piece

I've done this piece with my missus. It was all jammed live, it's the first time I've tried to record something and I'm not totally happy with the guitar sound but it's okay.

I'm interested in a getting a large scale cinematic sounds from one guitar, extending frequency range etc., and doing it all live.

If anyone else's doing something similar it would be cool to talk about techniques, effects etc.

Can't listen know but I reckon this will be up my street. I'll have a listen later.

I did some ambient/soundscape looping a while ago, but then ended up firmly in the classic rock pub scene so I'm itching to get back into playing something a bit different.

I used a volume pedal, Micro Pog, various modulation pedals, delay and reverb...plus an ebow as well, and a looper.

Just ordered a Hardwire Supernatural Ambient Reverb pedals that does the shimmer effect, a bit of a cliche in the ambient world but I love it!

Check out Andy Othling aka Lowercase Noises for some pretty inspiring guitar looping, http://www.youtube.com/user/tubescreamer

nice, not tried the e-bow, although i've been looking at them on ebay for a while. I worked on the shimmer effect and ended up using two old rack units to achieve it, just before people started adding it as a preset to pedals, which is a lot easier for sure. Also been looking at POGs and the Micro Synth as i'd like to get some "non-guitar" tones.

I've had both. The Micro Synth was mad as a box of frogs. Helps to run a compressor before it to even out your signal as it could get a bit weird and glitchy. Great fun but I never really got much use out of it, and I could never get it to sound as great as the youtube demos I was watching.

The Pog 2 is excellent. The attack slider is great for auto volume swells, then you can easily add a shimmer effect with the octave up sliders.

Had a listen. No idea what she's saying, but yeah I like the backing. Sounds a bit "Godspeed You! Black Emperor" in the second half (which is a good thing of course).

thanks. yeah, it's weird that it came out like that because i've never listened to them, or much post rock in general. Would like to get more HF content in there, i might look at the pog for that. i was using a big muff for long sustained notes. i was thinking if i can do some really high harmonics and find a way to really sustain them that would work.

The EHX Freeze is good fun, just captures and freezes a split second of what you play. Stick some modulation after it to give some movement.

oh, yeah, i remember looking at that. i think i can actually do that with my lexicon. i got this nice rack unit for £65 which does a lot, stores programs, midi programmable, all the advantages u get with bigger units. some of the roland delay and reverb units do that as well. good for making drones.
