Default Anyone got any good exercises to build technique?

I've been finding that cool stuff comes to my head but gets lost in translation when it gets down to my fingers, and it feels like my hands aren't 'talking' to each other if you know what I mean. I already practice scales and arpeggios to a metronome but was wondering if anyone knew any other good exercises for building fluency?

It just takes time and repetition.

What genre's are you trying to play?

Slow down man and give the lady more time. Candlelight dinner, a bottle of wine, soft music and chocolates help too. Just don't rush in........

    Haha unfortunately I don't have 10 hours a day for guitar :/

I play blues, jazz and rock, not really into the whole shredder thing, just find my technique is holding me back musically

i think you have to find the problem first before you know what to fix...it might be a good idea to video yourself playing and see what it is thats slowing you down...lack of co-ordinaltion with both hands, to much movement in the picking hand, to much movement with the fretting hand, or both of them...its like anything, iff you dont know what to fix you cant fix it,,,so best way is to be critical and then address the problem

I know and i bet you're not prepared to fast for 3 days before playing either! But check it, it's got some really useful tonguetwisters, well finger and brain twisters in it. Even if you do each exercise slowly. It really helped me with my accuracy and fluency and also my range of twiddly bits

Me neither which is why I cheat.

I was chatting to a local guitar teacher who gave me a bit of advice that he employs himself. If you have 3 hours you could learnt to play 20 George Harrison / Clapton licks really well or one Paul Gilbert lick really badly. The 20 licks would improve your ear, your musicality etc, the Gilbert lick would do nothing but leave you frustrated, so it's all about using the time you have effectively. I've also developed a few cheat techniques such as faux alternate picking where I hammer three notes then pick the next three etc, unless you are really paying attention it sounds like I'm shredding like the best of them

Do you have an hour a day, 6 days a week?
