I have the hots for that comp. I just wish I new what they did !!!
That particular comp adds sparkle to your clean tone, boosts the signal (quite a lot depending where you set the gain) and evens out the sound so that each string rings the same. In essence, it makes your clean sound better I don't bother with compression and od channel on amp as I don't want to sound like santana - apparently some people like it though.
