Default The G3 Tips & Tricks Thread

I've recently received my rather spiffing Zoom G3 in the post and I'm quite pleased with it.

My intention is to use it in the loop for mod and delay rather like many people an M9 and have it available as an emergency DI should my amp decide to explode at a gig.

    So far I've ascertained that:

The mods and delays are really good
The reverbs (especially the HD reverb) are OK, but not all that special
Most of the amp sims (especially the high gain ones) are not as good as my old POD2. The exceptions seem to be the Twin, the Two Rock and the Matchless which are quite good.
The looper and drum machine work really well

A lot of the presets are frankly baffling and have eleventy billion times to much gain mod effects set to 0 depth and such, but that's kind of to be expected.

I know that there are loads of people on here that have got them so I'd be interested to know what tips and tricks you've learned and especially if anyone has any patches to share.

So far my top tip is that some of the amp sims sound better on headphones if you don't have the global set to direct.

    What'cha got?

If you use a jack splitter adaptor thingy, you can use the single external input jack for both tap tempo switches and expression pedal.

Mostly delays, mods and verbs, in the loop same as you. I've used it to record a few little things direct into my PC and it sounds better than it has any right to, IMO (I love the Bogner model), and the looper/drum machine function is perfect for me, I've not found anything that's quite that simple to use as a practice tool.

You can also get a nice shimmer sound using the pitch delay before the HD reverb. Try fiddling with the chain order too, it makes the same difference as it would with seperate pedals. Also, you can set the signal to go left to right or right to left.

I really like the amp models.

If using headphones put the "air" effect at the end of the chain. Gives a very pleasing stereo widening effect through phones. It's a pointless effect when not using phones.

I use mine for delay, modulation and the looper. Occationally auto wah, compressor and stutter etc.

I use it infront of cleanish amps. Don't use the amp sims, for quiet prectice I prefer my ipad/apogee jam/amp kit.

The delay's are excellent, chorus is very nice and some of the other mods. The Looper is good.

The reverbs only okay. It's a great unit but not everything it does is great but add a few analog pedals to taste, stick it on your board powered from a 9v isolated supply and it is excellent.

I'm using it for phaser, auto wah, delays etc but not OD or distortion, using a separate pedal for that.
    I like it.

Am I right in thinking you have yours in front of the amp?
