Default Stacking OD or Dual OD pedal

So right now i'm running a MXR Distortion 3 as my OD pedal. I also have a fuzz pedal and also a Rat for my distortion/fuzz tones.

I would really like to have an OD tones that is almost distortion but still OD...and the MXR gets close, but not quite there. I would almost need to boost the MXR to get there.

So I'm thinking, do i get another OD pedal and stack them up, which should work...or ditch the MXR and get a dual stage OD pedal?

what do you guys think? what are pros/cons of each method? and are there any OD or Dual OD's that you would suggest (below £150 price range)

Hmmm it's a tricky one. I have a BB+ which I used to use but now prefer to stack two pedals (BB Preamp and RC Booster) and haven't used the BB+ since.

I guess one advantage of a dual pedal is that many have a switch that lets you flip how the channels of the pedal are stacked. Much easier than having the swap individual pedals mid gig!

At the moment I prefer stacking pedals, but I can't rule out going back to a dual at some point. Just try as much stuff as you can You could possibly get a used BB+ for around the £150?

The Blues Driver and the OCD are the classic OD/Distortion halfway house pedals.

well the big advantage of using separate pedals is that you can mix and match. using a single double pedal you're tied to whatever two pedals someone decided to bung together (though granted I'm sure custom makers could bung any two pedals together once you were sure what you wanted).

Advantage of a single dual pedal is it takes up less room and probably only take up one power supply cable.

visual sound do a few pedals that might fit the bill. I've just got the double trouble, which is two 808 tubescreamers in one pedal. Well under your budget too

There's the Foxrox ZIM - it has cards so you can put in all sorts of flavours of dirt. About £165 IIRC. Occasionally there are B-stock ones for less.

    Another Rat.

Or, if you want a dual pedal, get a Deucetone Rat - which should have been called "Two Rats In A Box", but presumably ProCo thought they would be clever and think of a more confusing name for it... and it has the disadvantage of being the same size as two Rats anyway.

Gristle King. Single drive but has a boost that you can put before or after the drive at the flick of a switch. Put it before and add to the drive.

I really like the HT Dual...and unlike 2 OD pedals stacked you can stomp once and go back to your clean sound...like making 3 channels out of your amps clean channel. With two pedals - stacked OD pedals can sound really good...but if you want to go straight back to clean its 2 stomps. HT Dual...1 stomp! Plus it really does sound good to. So there's my recommendation. And its even 'pure valve distortion' as well!
