    Default New Ironheart rack version

Check this video out - it shows off the new rack mount version of the Laney Ironheart. Alas this isn't one of Andertons' best videos and they miss out loads of details and product shots. For example it has USB, but they go into no detail on what you can do with that. It's still a very intriguing product though. I'd be very tempted to check it out. BTW this baby Ironheart is EL84 powered rather than the 6L6 (or EL34 in mine) of its big brother.

Thomann has it listed for £410. Very tempted. Just need to find out what the USB features are. Be very cool if I can use it to record via USB and put stuff in the FX loop.

That looks bloody ace, intriguing indeed. I wish more manufacturers would make rack versions of their amps.

    Very cool.

Although with the Axe FX I've kinda lost all interest in buying more guitar amps.
    Still... for £400 I might.

    That's a great idea.

Playing bass you get used to the modern compact rack mount heads. About time guitar followed suit.

If they update the fullsize heads to have these features I will upgrade. Speaker emulated out is such a useful thing. I think the USB is for taking DIs and also re-amping.

Not long back in from rehearsal tonight. Had my IRT120h and TT412 up nice and loud and it was great fun. Laney really have a good product with the Ironheart, and I'm sure these new amps will sell really well.

Personally I am gutted that the rack is only 15 watts. I would have bought a preamp only unit or a higher powered rack amp. At 15 watts I will have to think about it, I'm not sure it would be powerful enough to use as a backup since I do need a loud clean in my current band. The form factor suits me though and I am looking to buy a rack audio interface soon as well so who knows.

It can still be used as a pre-amp only though - just use the FX send.

As a side note - did you find swapping to EL34s made much difference in the Ironheart? I've never personally switched output valve type in an amp before, though I have heard several comparison clips. With some amps it seems differences are very subtle and with others it is noticeable (assuming the content creators are playing fair!).

You are correct, however you then lose the ability to use the effects loop. Or am I being stupid and could I just go FX send, Boss DD20 delay pedal (only thing in my loop, but needed) and then into a power amp?

I think I'm being stupid, I've not had a rack amp before.

The head is cheaper than the rack - £327 currently at http://www.thomann.de/gb/laney_irt15h.htm

It is only one channel though, which is a bit of a shame and it puts it in direct competition with Orange's Tiny Terror series which is well established already, but I guess Laney see room in their product catalogue for both the rack and small head units at the different price points. Based on my tonal preferences I'd pick an Ironheart head over a Terror head, but based on usability I'd pick the Ironheart rack over the 15 watt Ironheart head.
