It sounds perfectly fine, if a bit lacking in sparkle. It surprised me, I thought it would be crap but it is very usable and none of my pickups distort it at high volume, but bear in mind I use PAF types and single coils

I guess it reminds me a bit of a DI signal with access to the EQ section, which makes sense as I think the clean channel was a last minute addition to the amp where it basically is the rhythm channel with the pre amp gain being removed from the signal (if you excuse my non technical explanation/understanding)
Thank you for your explanation GFB, "non technical" is fine by me.

I'm not sure what proper cleans are, my experience of amps is a bit limited, I have a Mustang and a thr, I guess I like the totally clean models on my amps, but I delve into what i assume is a "bluesy" type gradual break up too. I venture into high gain stuff just for a bit of a blast, but i dont think much of the mustang hi gain models so that has put me off.

Oh, and I use a tele with the usual single coils and a hollow body with humbuckers.

Perhaps the laney would open the door to better rock/metal sounds

Ah, but you're missing quite a big point there - you can use this to reamp with other amps as well, hence the re-amp send.

As for using it as a preamp...I'm guessing you could quite easily run the DI output into a power amp. The cab emulation is switchable, so you could run it into a normal power amp and cab with it off, or use a FR rig instead.

I spoke to the guys at Andertons...they've got them at £450, and they'll be in at the end of Feb. I did try to persuade them to let me have the one in the video, but no dice

I kinda hoped that the 15W head would have all the channels, but it seems to just have the lead channel. That upsets me, because I really like that style of amp shell (kinda like the Traynor Ironhorse).

That might explain why I haven't been able to find one.

I think that is because they want to sell at two price points (to two slightly different markets), and if the features were the same in head/rack there wouldn't be any point in making both IMO. The head is quite a bit cheaper, Thomann have it at £334 http://www.thomann.de/gb/laney_irt15h.htm

This puts it right in the mix with the Orange Terror single channel amps, which is the market they're aiming that head at if they're doing one channel only. If they gave it the same features as the rack they couldn't make it as small. It looks cool IMO, I like the side handles. But of the two I'd pick the rack myself

Err...guys? Price just came down at Andertons...

    http://www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-am...-interface.asp

Probably means the 15W head is going to come in at £300 or less, which means it's reasonably likely to cannibalise Orange's grip on the giggable lunchbox amp market.

    Good News!

Youre gonna tell me some more good news aren't you, like you can mount it with the controls upward facing without the amp catching fire, so that i can mount it in the arm of my La Z Boy chair!

Go on say it can be done.

Ok so it's a stupid idea, but I'm liking this idea.

There's also a little 30Watt combo announced in this range too. And it has the DI from the IRT-Studio model, with a choice of dry or emulated out.
