Basically, my ideal would be a Tweedy TMB amp at about the 12w level running 2x6v6s in cathode bias for the extra sag & compression. I'd be tempted to build it as a 2x10 diagonal format combo, but maybe as a head for portability. I'd also love to keep in a tremolo, but would settle for a decent fx loop and a nice pedal or two.

Feel free to point me in the right direction to make this happen! I keep meaning to drop by and try some amps out actually as I'm in Denmark St quite a bit
The Tweed Super does indeed use 6L6s! Off the top of my head, I think the tone controls are quite unusual, and not the "standard" Fender tonestack that (virtually) everyone seems to use these days. The early ones are V-fronted. I recently worked on one from 1948!

In my opinion there is much more innovation in 50s guitar amps, and a lot of knowledge has been "lost" over the years.

Regardless the Tweed Super is a very cool amp, but doesn't have tremolo. You should also see if you can find a Brown Tolex Super. These have a great tremolo, more of a phaser really, that is only found on some of the Fender Brown Tolex amps.

By the way I really like the 2x10" speaker format; in fact a 2 x 10" 6V6 powered amp is perhaps the great amp Fender never made.

I've been prototyping a MOSFET LFO for adding trem to amps (with good results). This will be easy to retro fit (especially to fixed bias amps), and won't employ much real estate.

Anyhow, if you are in the Denmark St environs, feel free to drop and and see what we are doing.

^Fixed that for you - you're one of 'us' now

I'd second the recommendation for a VVR - really useful.

I just bought a Torres Vibrolux Reverb with e 5E3 circuit in the Normal channel (2x6L6) - Fender heaven!

I saw it too. Indeed I had it on watch and was seriously considering bidding. Needless to say should you consider moving it on Fusionista, ping me a PM

Sure thing. That said it's a purfick match for my PP18 'Tweed' combo (in which I've just stuck a Blue). All I've got to do is put on some taller rubber feet so it can sit nicely on top - either that or make the handle on the combo removable - decisions, decisions

Just listen to this (not me I hasten to add!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7pgvDlXzhw

So, only cab available was a Blackstar 4x12, but it sounded great from the off. Just one niggle: something up with the Normal (5E3) Channel 1, which sounded like a valve going - will have to test/diagnose further. Tweed was otherwise classic fat stuff - and quite amazingly loud for 12 watts - while the Vibrolux was cleaner and brighter as one would expect. Both No 2 sockets are quieter, brighter and cleaner so expect they share a pre-amp circuit with something other than a 12AX7 in - haven't had it out yet to check. The trem has been disconnected: some say that makes the sound fatter - I will probably re-connect just to find out (and because my Voodoo Vibe + is stashed away on my 'big pedals' board, which never seems to make it out any more). A very good buy methinks

Oh yes, on the reverb side: perfectly adequate, but not the full Fender (tank smaller than in the standalone ?). Not quite Matamp either. Nice to have though, better than any of the pedals I have tried.
