    Default Anyone Remember Quarterflash?

    Hi Guys

On the upside of a pretty dire day on guitar for me, I decided to learn this song and the solo. It made me feel a bit better

This is a great song and takes me right back. I can remember it being on a compilation album called "American Heartbeat" (The original version) way back in the 80's.

I love the tone the guy gets on his guitar on this song, I like how he gradually adds more gain(but not too much) for the song's latter stages, the chords sound awesome.

On the vid he is playing a Tele by the looks of it, but I don't know if that was just for the vid.

If you pause around the 2:53 point, it looks like he has a custom middle pick up that is only picking up the D G B E strings, although I could be completely wrong.

It would be good to know what amp he used for recording too.

I had a go with my Goldfinger and Blue Ecstasy Pedal and with using the push pull pots on my VSOP, to get just the bridge and neck pick up for that Tele sound and it did a pretty good sound-alike.

I'll have to check out more Quarterfalsh stuff, they seem to have a great sound.

I remember being in a friends XR3i (sporty!) in the 80's and he had that very tape so I got myself a copy of it and it was on heavy rotation in my house for a few years.

Some great songs on that record and Quarterflash was one of my favourites.

Thanks for the reminder, I will have to get a copy of that album again.

There were some top songs on that original album. I since read somewhere that what I thought was a modded middle treble pick up is actually a cavity that Fender had created to aid better guiding the wiring from the pick up to the volume and tone knobs. The guitar originally had a scratchplate that the guy removed as he did not like it. So to fill the cavity he used a pick up cover and just slammed it in and left it.

BTW I hope the Escort XR3i had an extra large black spoiler on the hatch
