No, the 8-bit sounds are from the Oberheim DX. Yeah, that's a great kick, and, along with the sound of the de-tuned hand-clap, is what sold me on the thing so many years ago.

This is why I want the drum machine. I have been using the kit though at the minute but I'd just like the actual machine. ( Check my other thread on the drum machine query re: a Malcolm Mclaren track )

I love the kick and the snare esp, these type of kicks remind me of the Linn kick and to an extent the TR707 kick, I always have a problem bringing out the bottom end on these types of sounds, they end up a bit 'wooly' and distort at quite low volume before I have added any noticeable gain to the low end. I tried boosting with very narrow Q widths but I still can't pinpoint the sweet spot so in the end I opted to HP the kick and stick a 909 under it. ( This seems to be my method for any kick problem these days but it works )

I just did a quick loop with the 8bit kit with the pitches of the sounds slightly tweaked and the 909 under the HP'd DX kick, it still sounds like a DX kick but it has more weight for my dance orientated needs and works really well. Looking forward to doing a track with these drums now.

I gotta get me this machine though, it's got bags of character and I just feel a bit lame for using samples.
