I heard that too. Tht chap said he'd spent 100k over 20 years and now had a collection worth 1m+

That's potentially true, but while prices have dropped a little recently, I still wouldn't put money into guitars at the mo.

The problem I see is some people are so incredibly good at fakes that I'd never be sure about what I was buying.
Spoke to Charlie Chandler about this a while back and he agreed.

Trusted brands like Gibson Fender Gretsch Rickenbacker and Martin will always hold value and some, if bought at the right time/price will even make money in the short term , There is always someone with a tax bill big expense etc that needs to sell a saleable guitar, unfortunate in many ways , but the way it is .

I have a Burns Spiltsonic that has gone up in value from £500 in 2005 to £800 to £1000 now so if you can find the right Guitar you can make money

This younger generation, that are say, 20 dont want old guitars. They, on a whole dont interest them so If I was sat on anything Id be thinking of getting rid. Its sad, and totally against everything Ive thoiught over the past 20 years of buying and selling vintage gear but thats how it is. That guy on radio actually said closer to £10m from memory...

Would it sell though? Being worth is different to 'would sell for...'

If buying to play, I'd take a brand new Custom Shop something any day of the week. Guitar companies have worked out what made the old ones good and now they can duplicate it reasonably consistently.

Leave the old stuff to the collectors to hang on their walls, and if you're one of them then now probably is a good time to buy.
Life's too short to live with bad tone...
