Default I think my neck has stopped working.

    Ow!

    Ow!

    OW!

    OW! OW!

Woke up with hurty neck on Wednesday, Thursday was worse, yesterday was worse still, by last night laying down in pretty much any position was horrendously painful - I could only get to sleep using the "daily" dose of ibuprofen (6x 200mg pills)in one go with three Anadin extra. I can't lift, sitting isn't comfortable laying down is awful... waiting for another half dozen ibuprofen to kick in so I can sit without hurting.

    Ow!

Why do things like this happen at the weekend?

    Seriously, get it looked at!

It's a pretty important part of you, connecting your head to the rest of you.

    What preceeded it?
    (Tuesday/ Monday/ even possibly weekend)?

May seem to come from nowhere - but rarely does.

    Even change of mattress/pillows etc.

WAY too much time sitting around staring at them, instead of using them to drunkenly show off in front of girls for money, as nature intended.

Tuesday is the leading cause of Wednesdays around the world!

Tuesday I had a late night, but only because I was loafing on a friends sofa chatting and didn't see the time. So 5 hours of sleep instead of my usual 6. Other than that I don't know.

So, probably, the loafing - could be unsupportive sofa, or angle of watching screen?

    First aid -
everything hurts, but work out what hurts least, and stick with it (as your body is saying).

No point being bold and adventurous early on - tortoise wins this race!

Painkillers will mask pain, so try and get to minimum early.
Then you can "listen" to how the pain behaves.

Half hour walking should help - but may be a day or two away.

Being stuck in front of a screen, 'cos bored, is generally wrong.

This is easy - supporting the weight of my head hurts, so can only stand up dead straight or lay down dead flat. Moving my head hurts, lifting hurts. I can turn my head a bit - to the right I have a full range of motion, to the left about half that range... up and down hurts, side to side hurts.

Basically for three days other than work I've sat quite still and tried to not make it worse (at which I have apparently failed)

The weekend, without the demand of a screen(?), should bring some relief.

Since lying flat is good, a bit of experiment within that is also good.

Lying on firm floor (i.e not matress) with telephone directory sized support under head
(knees bent to flatten lower back, perhaps)
gives useful daytime change, when you've had enough (half hour in any one posture max).

If pain is not relenting, do not force it.

Work doesn't involve a screen either...

    O.K. no screen at work.

Bur general principle is that eye tasks (looking/reading etc) make your neck wish to be central,
when pain says turned to right is much better.

This may be the weekend for listening to music/radio.

Asymmetric episodes generally respond well to treatment, but that's beyond the scope of a first-aid thread.

Maybe a trapped nerve- I have a recurring problem with this and it sounds kinda similar. Think you need a doctor
