Hmmmn ....... I've had an 'achy' fretting little finger for about 10 months now. Feels worst in the morning, and often I totally forget it, but it ain't going away. I have no faith in GPs though. My experience is that they either want to give you antibiotics for everything or they haven't a clue. One of my GPs would listen intently to me and then just turn around and google the symptoms! If you can't get referred then forget it!

Sounds similar to me except different finger. Agree somewhat about GPs. I came away from mine thinking there were no serious implications for my playing and went home and googled it and got a much more pessimistic take on it. She basically said pain would settle down, I'd be left with a lumpy bit but shouldn't affect finger strength or flexibility. I can only hope she's right: lots of players haven't been so lucky.

(Of course it's hard if you're not a pro to broach the subject of how important playing is to you - you imagine they're going to think something like "ok my last patient had cancer of the liver and you're worried about a sore finger interfering with your hobby?")

Yu are lucky, I was dying with an infection, saw the GP for the first time in eleven years and they wouldn't prescribe antibiotics as they said I was fit and healthy and worked outdoors for a living and antibiotics were being overprescribed, so it took another three weeks of slow and painful recovery whilst I missed another two weeks of work. Then when I finally got to work, after going down to just under ten stone from 12 and a half with a three week fever, I did my back in in the cold without even lifting anything. I only got ill because I took a two week holiday and stayed in someone's air conditioned house with the temp set to 23 C with 40 % RH outdoors. I have never been so glad to get back to waking up to 8 C and 67% RH indoors I can tell you. I love England! But it is shite for arthitis.

Problem is that there are too many hypocondriacal menopausal women out there that ruin it for the rest of us.

I can't work out if this is predominantly ageist or sexist?
