    Default Wanted: BOSS DS-1

So I was about package up the DS-1 that I modded for GuitarAndy when I couldn't resist playing with the diodes a bit more, remembering something that Sporky once said he'd done to a DS-1.

Well, in short, it sounds absolutely fricking amazing now - like the Keeley Seeing Eye with more soul...so I want a DS-1 so I can do a mod for myself.

So if anyone has an unused DS-1 for a realistic price (even I could just about afford a new one! What are they, £35 now?) I want one. Not bothered about the cosmetic condition so long as it is still just about orange!

    Anyone?

Just today I have been considering a DS-1 myself!

LOL you and me both, eh?

I was looking at a website the other week that used LEDs instead of diodes for some part of the ds1 and the blues drivers... I want to do a mod on an SD1 but couldnt find any cheap enough. Spose I'll have to buy new.

I think Sounds Great Music had a s/h DS on sale a little while back, though you'd pay more. Just checked, it was a DS 2 for 39.

I shall be waiting to hear Andy's and then probably placing an order myself Dave.

I found a soundclip of the Keeley Ultra-modded DS-1 the other day and thought it sounded good. I have faith in yours being better though.

Basically the same idea as the Keeley Seeing Eye Mod. It removes the processed top end and opens it up. Turns it into a totally different and much superior pedal - very like a cranked up stack sound, reacting nicely to volume control tweaks from the guitar. It also makes a very nice drive booster at lower gain settings.

It improves the pedal in every way - hence why I want one for myself!

It's insane, pretty much all the Boss pedals can be turned into boutique-end awesomeness with perhaps £10 - £20 of high-end components.

Why don't Boss sort them out!?

Sounds good - parts expensive ?

Now all you need do is find someone who wants one modded () then maybe they'd get 2 brand new ds-1's charging you relatively very little money for one of them in exchange for you modding the other one?!

Not really, but it is worth spending out for good poly film capacitors for a few spots on the board. I charge £35 for parts and labour to mod one. Same as to mod an SD-1 or TubeScreamer - but the DS-1 reacts far more drastically to modding. The SD-1 and TubeScreamer are good pedals off the shelf, the DS-1 is rubbish IMO. THe SD-1/TS get better with modding, the DS-1 completely changes.

I have just remembered that I have a DF-2 somewhere...maybe I could cram the mods into the DS-1 part of the circuit...that would be a GREAT pedal then...
