Default The new influencers in Guitar land

It's been interesting recently seeing how big brands are latching on to the bloggers/Youtubers as a trusted sources for gear info.

One example was a NAMM video where that "The Tone King" chap was interviewing Chappers and Chappers was saying that he'd been closing deals with certain brands to relaunch their stuff via his audience.

And we all know if PGS Andy actively promoted (rather than just demo'd) something it would sell in truckloads.

Then also even print ads like:

Even Mister tounge-in-cheek Gearmanndude has become the trusted source that the print media used to be.

Time was if I heard about something I'd look out for a mag review of it. No longer...

It is interesting. I always take PGS Andy as proof that many 'bad' sounding pedals can sound excellent. Look at his demo of the DS-1 - that's a perfectly recordable or giggable tone from a stompbox known the world over for being distinctly average. He just plays gear to their strengths.

Helps that he's a very good player. Check his cover of Mr Crowley to see fingers move faster than physics allows...

Ola Englund (fearedse on youtube) has his own signature amp and guitar, basically off the back of youtube videos.

I relied a lot on PhilX's demos to purchase gear. But then I ran out of organs to sell.

PGS Andy is amazing. I want everything that guy demos, and I've bought a fair few of them.

But maybe that's a problem, everything's just too good and his reviews have little ( or no) real critical content. He's a master at getting the best out of everything, the bastard.

Of course, they're adverts not reviews, and he does it so well. I'm collecting my PGS exclusive Supernatural reverb pedal from the PO in the morning!
